Durga Puja 2026 schedule in Bangladesh time: puja, anjali and Sandhi Puja

In 2026 Mahalaya is on Saturday 10 October. Sharadiya Durga Puja begins on Shashthi, Friday 16 October, and Bijaya Dashami is Wednesday 21 October. The two panjikas differ more than usual this year: by the traditional Gupta Press reckoning Saptami runs two days, and by Bishuddha Siddhanta Shashthi does. Their Sandhi Pujas are about three hours apart.

Every time below is in Bangladesh time. The Kolkata panjikas print Indian time, and Bangladeshi temples keep the same moments by adding 30 minutes. Ask your purohit which panjika your temple follows.

The Bengali dates are the panjika's. In Bangladesh's national calendar 16 October is 31 Ashwin, and Kartik begins on 17 October.

When are Sandhi Puja and the Ashtami anjali

Sandhi Puja is on Monday 19 October: the last 24 minutes of the Ashtami tithi and the first 24 minutes of Navami, 48 minutes in all. The moment Ashtami ends and Navami begins is the sandhikshan.

• By Gupta Press: Sandhi Puja from 7:55 to 8:43 AM, sandhikshan at 8:19. The Maha Ashtami puja and pushpanjali by 7:34 AM.
• By Bishuddha Siddhanta: Sandhi Puja from 10:58 to 11:46 AM, sandhikshan at 11:22. The Maha Ashtami puja and pushpanjali by 10:57 AM.

Mahalaya: Saturday 10 October

• The end of Pitri Paksha and the start of Devi Paksha.
• Mahishasuramardini on Akashvani Kolkata at 4 AM Indian time, which is 4:30 AM in Bangladesh.
• By Bishuddha Siddhanta the Amavasya tithi runs from 10:07 PM on 9 October to 9:50 PM on 10 October.
• Tarpan for the ancestors is offered in the morning, while Amavasya lasts.

Most temples in Bangladesh, the Dhakeshwari National Temple among them, follow this traditional reckoning. The Beni Madhab Sil panjika agrees with it to about a minute.

Shashthi: Friday 16 October

• Kalparambha and the Shashthi puja: by 9:57 AM, within the forenoon.
• Bodhon, amantran and adhivas of the Devi in the evening.

Saptami (day one): Saturday 17 October

• Nabapatrika pravesh and sthapan, Saptami kalparambha and the Saptami puja: after the kalbela, between 7:31 and 9:57 AM.
• The Devi arrives on a horse, foretelling unrest.

Saptami (day two): Sunday 18 October

• The additional Saptami puja, while Saptami lasts: by 6:22 AM.

Maha Ashtami: Monday 19 October

• Maha Ashtami kalparambha, the Ashtami puja and pushpanjali: before the kalbela, by 7:34 AM.
• Sandhi Puja: 7:55 to 8:43 AM. Sandhikshan at 8:19.

Maha Navami: Tuesday 20 October

• Maha Navami kalparambha and the Navami puja: by 9:57 AM, within the forenoon. The Navami tithi ends at 9:59 AM.
• The homa, after the puja.

Bijaya Dashami: Wednesday 21 October

• The Dashami puja and darpan bisarjan: by 9:57 AM.
• Aparajita puja after the immersion, by family custom.
• The Devi departs by boat, foretelling more crops and more water.

The Beni Madhab Sil panjika narrows some of these for barbela and kalbela. In Bangladesh time: the Shashthi puja by 8:33 AM; the Saptami puja after 7:34 AM; the Navami puja by 7:45 AM, or after 9:01 and by 9:58 AM; the Dashami puja and immersion by 9:01 AM. It also gives an ardharatri puja on the night of 18 October, between 11:29 PM and 12:17 AM.

Day by day: by Bishuddha Siddhanta

Belur Math and the Ramakrishna Mission follow this panjika. At Belur Math the Devi's worship is on 18, 19 and 20 October.

Shashthi (day one): Friday 16 October

• The Shashthi tithi begins at 3:56 AM, in the night after 15 October.

Shashthi (day two): Saturday 17 October

• Kalparambha and the Shashthi puja, while Shashthi lasts: by 6:24 AM.
• Bodhon, amantran and adhivas of the Devi in the evening.

Saptami: Sunday 18 October

• Nabapatrika pravesh and sthapan, and the Saptami puja, while Saptami lasts: by 8:57 AM.
• The Devi arrives on an elephant, foretelling a bountiful harvest.

Maha Ashtami: Monday 19 October

• The Maha Ashtami puja and pushpanjali, before Sandhi Puja: by 10:57 AM.
• Sandhi Puja: 10:58 to 11:46 AM. Sandhikshan at 11:22.
• Kumari Puja: at Belur Math from 9 AM Indian time. The Ramakrishna Math and Mission in Dhaka also holds Kumari Puja on Maha Ashtami, at a time it will announce.

Maha Navami: Tuesday 20 October

• The Navami puja, while Navami lasts: by 1:20 PM. The homa after the puja.

Bijaya Dashami: Wednesday 21 October

• The Dashami puja and darpan bisarjan, while Dashami lasts: by 2:41 PM.
• The Devi departs by boat, foretelling more crops and more water.

The Devi's arrival and departure

The weekday of Saptami decides what the Devi arrives on, and the weekday of Bijaya Dashami what she leaves on. By Gupta Press Saptami is a Saturday, so she arrives on a horse, foretelling unrest. By Bishuddha Siddhanta Saptami is a Sunday, so she arrives on an elephant, foretelling a bountiful harvest. Bijaya Dashami is a Wednesday, so by both she leaves by boat, foretelling more crops and more water.

Public holidays

Tuesday 20 October (Maha Navami) is a holiday by executive order, and Wednesday 21 October (Bijaya Dashami) is a public holiday. As reported on 30 September, the government has also decided in principle on an executive-order holiday on Thursday 22 October. Once the cabinet approves it and the notice is issued, with the weekend that makes five days off in a row, 20 to 24 October.

At the Dhakeshwari National Temple

The Mahanagar Sarbojanin Puja Committee's programme at the Dhakeshwari National Temple:

• 10 October, Mahalaya: a programme at 6 AM.
• 15 October: the Panchami puja in the forenoon, and the bodhon in the evening.
• 16 October: the Shashthi puja; amantran and adhivas in the evening; clothes given out.
• 17 and 18 October: the Saptami puja and the additional puja; prasad at midday.
• 19 October: the Maha Ashtami puja and Sandhi Puja; mahaprasad at midday.
• 20 October: the Maha Navami puja and prasad; an arati competition in the evening.
• 21 October: the Dashami puja and darpan bisarjan; the Devi's boron at 11:30 AM; a blood drive at noon; the Bijaya procession at 3 PM.
• Anjali every day after the puja.
• After the puja: Kojagari Lakshmi Puja on 25 October, the Bijaya gathering on 6 November, and Shyama Puja with Dipavali on 8 November.
