Kadipur Shibbari

Kadipur Shib Bari, located in Kulaura Upazila of Moulvibazar district, is an ancient and visually stunning temple. This 150-year-old traditional pilgrimage site was primarily established by the Som Zamindar family, and it is widely acclaimed at home and abroad for its 23-foot-tall permanent Sahasrabhuja (thousand-armed) Durga idol and its ancient Shiva Lingam.
This holy pilgrimage site is situated in Kadipur Union of Kulaura Upazila in the Moulvibazar district, and is known as one of the most ancient and beautiful temples in the Sylhet division. Upon entering the temple premises, you will notice high arches and an approximately 450-foot-long RCC-cast pathway that leads visitors toward the main temples. Inside, there are three main temples side by side, among which the 'Sri Sri Bhairabi Maa' temple, newly built in 2023, is a prominent one. However, the biggest attraction of this Shib Bari is the colossal Durga idol placed on the first floor of the 'Ananda Sebadham' building. Constructed with cement in 2022, this magnificent red-colored idol stands 23 feet tall and possesses one thousand arms (Sahasrabhuja); as it is permanently established, devotees have the opportunity to seek blessings all year round. Furthermore, there are separate temples here for the Lord of Lords Mahadev, Goddess Durga, Manasa, Bali, Bhairab, Shitala, Chamunda, and Shani Dev, where daily worship is conducted strictly adhering to scriptural rituals.
The history of this Shib Bari shares a deep spiritual connection with the local Som Zamindar lineage, who have been organizing the Durga Puja festival here for about a hundred and fifty years. Legend has it that a sage from the Zamindar family obtained the awakened Shiva Lingam here after a long penance about 150 years ago. After the abolition of the Zamindari system, the family once fell into an extreme financial crisis and performed only the Ghat Puja (worship of the sacred pot) of Goddess Durga for about 31 years, but since 2001, the temple has regained its lost glory.
