Shani Dev

Saturn is a deity in Hinduism who is the son of Surya (the Sun god) and his wife Chhaya Devi (the daughter of the divine architect Vishwakarma and the goddess Shyama, created from the shadow of goddess Shyama). Therefore he is also called Chhaya Putra (Shadow Son). Shani, the god of death and justice, is also known as Yama or Dharmaraj, and the younger brother of the holy goddess Shri Yamuna. According to the Brahma Vaivarta Purana, one day while Shani was meditating, his wife Devi Dharmini, dressed in beautiful attire, approached him. Because the meditative Shani did not notice her, Dharmini (or Mandha) cursed him, saying, "If you ever turn towards me again, you will be turned into ashes." From then on, whoever he turns towards would become ash. Some believe this was due to the influence of malefic planetary positions. Medieval texts describe Shani as a deity who is considered a bearer of misfortune. However, this is not truly the case. Shani is good for good and bad for bad. He is very patient and wise. He received the boon of a bent eye from Mahadeva, which guides a person onto the right path. It should be noted that while dispensing karma, he may fall into the wrath of many, but he never strays from the path of truth.
