The Shri Shri Bhavanī Mother Temple, located in Bhavanipur of Sherpur Upazila in Bogura, is known as the powerful seat of the shrine’s caretaker. The presiding deity here is Goddess Aparna or Bhavanī, worshipped as Bhairav Bāmeś or Bāman. Various religious texts and traditional narratives differ in their descriptions of the fallen body parts of the saint; it is unnecessary to accept a single account as the definitive history to understand the identity of the seat.
The description published by the temple committee and the official introduction mentions a courtyard surrounded by about twelve bighas of walls. Within it are the main mother temple, Bhairav and other Shiva temples, the temples of Gopāl and Bāsudev, the Nat Mandir or Āṭachālā, and provisions for food. The Shankari or Shankha Pond and the bathing ghats are an important part of the pilgrimage’s religious identity.
There is a popular folk tale about the goddess holding a conch shell around the pond and the vision of the conch holder. To devotees, this tale is a reminder of the Mother’s greatness. The large gatherings on Māghī Purnima and Ramnavami, along with other annual worships and festivals, have made the temple an active pilgrimage center.
