The Baba Lokenath Brahmachari Ashram, situated at Barodi in Sonargaon Upazila under Narayanganj District, is one of the most revered and sacred pilgrimage destinations for Sanatan devotees across South Asia. Situated amidst the tranquil surroundings near the Meghna basin, this historic spiritual sanctuary is the place where the Himalayan yogi, Baba Lokenath Brahmachari, spent the final 26 years of his life and ultimately attained Mahasamadhi in 1890. The ashram complex houses the sanctum sanctorum of Baba's Mahasamadhi shrine, prayer halls, a sprawling courtyard, and facilities for visiting pilgrims. Thousands of devotees gather here daily to seek blessings, and the annual Rakher Upobash (Kartik Brata) festival attracts massive gatherings, standing as a living emblem of selfless devotion, universal compassion, and peace.

About
History
Born in 1730 at Chakla village in North 24 Parganas, Baba Lokenath embarked on ascetic renunciation at an early age alongside his spiritual master, Guru Bhagwan Chandra Ganguly. Following nearly a century of severe yogic austerities, high-altitude penance in the Himalayas, and extensive travels covering Afghanistan, Persia, and the Middle East, he returned to undivided Bengal as an enlightened Siddha Purusha. Around 1864, he arrived at Barodi upon the humble request of the Nag zamindar family, who dedicated land to establish the present hermitage. During his tenure at Barodi, he lived a simple life, consoling distressed souls and uttering his eternal assurance of divine protection during crises. On June 2, 1890 (19th Jyeshtha, 1297 BS), he entered Mahasamadhi in Gomukhasana posture, enshrining Barodi as an enduring seat of spiritual heritage.
How to get there
Travel by Bus:
Board a Dhaka-Chattogram highway bus from Gulistan or Jatrabari/Sayedabad in Dhaka.
You need to get down at Mograpara Chowrasta by bus or local vehicle. It takes about 1 to 1.5 hours.
From Mograpara Chowrasta, you can hire a CNG, auto-rickshaw, or scooter to reach Barodi Loknath Ashram directly. The fare usually ranges from 20 to 65 BDT per person.
Private Car or CNG:
From Dhaka, you can reach Barodi via Kuril Bishwa Road along the Purbachal Expressway (300 Feet) or via Mograpara along the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.
It takes about 1 to 1.5 hours to reach Barodi directly from Dhaka by private vehicle.
