Adinath Temple is a highly revered and historic Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located atop the scenic Mainak Hill on Maheshkhali Island in the Cox's Bazar district of Bangladesh. Situated at an elevation of approximately 85 meters above sea level, the temple offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Bay of Bengal and the surrounding landscape. It stands as one of the most prominent pilgrimage sites for Sanatan Dharma followers in the region, attracting thousands of devotees and tourists annually, especially during the auspicious occasion of Shiva Chaturdashi when a famous month-long fair is held at the foot of the hill. The temple complex houses the sacred Adinath Shiva Linga as the primary deity, along with shrines dedicated to Goddess Durga and Lord Ganesh. The peaceful spiritual ambiance combined with the natural beauty of the island makes it a unique cultural and religious landmark. Visitors can access the temple by climbing a flight of concrete stairs leading up the hill from the base. From Cox's Bazar's Kasturi Ghat or Ghat No. 6, one can take a speedboat or trawler to reach Maheshkhali Jetty, and then take a rickshaw or easy bike to the temple.

About
History
The history and origins of the Adinath Temple are deeply intertwined with Hindu mythology and ancient legends. According to the Ramayana and local folklore, during the Treta Yuga, the powerful king of Lanka, Ravana, performed intense penance to please Lord Shiva on Mount Kailash. Satisfied with his devotion, Lord Shiva granted him a boon in the form of a sacred Shiva Linga, allowing him to carry it to Lanka on the strict condition that he must not place it on the ground anywhere along the journey; otherwise, it would become permanently established at that very spot. While flying over the coastal region, Ravana felt an urgent need to answer nature's call and temporarily placed the Shiva Linga on the summit of Mainak Hill to rest. True to Shiva's condition, Ravana was subsequently unable to lift the Linga again despite using all his immense strength. Thus, the deity remained permanently established on the hill. In later historical periods, the temple fell into neglect but was rediscovered, maintained, and renovated by the ascetics and gurus of the Nath community, from whom the temple and the region derive historical significance.
