Introduction

The founder of Gaudiya Vaishnavism and a key figure of the Bhakti movement in medieval India.

Biography

Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1486–1534) was a prominent Bengali Hindu spiritual teacher and social reformer. He propagated Bhakti yoga and founded Gaudiya Vaishnavism. Born in Nabadwip, he popularized the congregational chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra as the supreme path of devotion.

Teachings

His core philosophy is Achintya-Bheda-Abheda (inconceivable simultaneous oneness and difference). He advocated for devotion (Bhakti) over caste barriers, emphasizing the congregational chanting of the holy names of God (Sankirtan). His only written legacy is the eight-versed 'Siksastakam'.

Miracles & Lilas

During Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's Sankirtan movement, many experienced spontaneous spiritual ecstasy. The transformation of the notorious bandits Jagai and Madhai into saintly devotees is widely revered as a testament to his divine grace.
